The Twisted Hairs Council of Elders

In these times there are many teachers and schools offering different courses and approaches to self-growth and human evolution. Many of the Eight Great Power schools have opened their doors to students in unprecedented ways. In choosing a spiritual path, it is important to make a sober discernment about the teacher and the path they represent. This is best understood by hearing of their lineage and to whom the individual teachers are accountable. This is our lineage story.

For many ancient peoples, hair symbolizes knowledge. Twisted Hairs refers to those who take knowledge from all sources and weave it together to formulate what is true and valid for them. True knowledge is self-knowledge, tested, felt and integrated into a way of life. It always leads to change in one’s behavior and health.

For thousands of years, medicine people, shamans, sorcerers, and magicians from various tribes of Turtle Island (North, Central and South America) traveled beyond their tribal boundaries to seek and collect knowledge from every direction of the Wheel of Life. In 1250 B.C., these men and women founded a secret society or magickal lodge called the Rattlesnake School. Today it is known as the Twisted Hairs Metis Medicine Society Council of Elders.

Through the ages the Twisted Hairs accumulated tremendous amounts of sacred knowledge about energy laws, ceremonial alchemy, healing techniques, communication with nature, sorcery, and controlled dreaming. In 1975, hearing the call of Grandmother Earth and seeing both the need and the readiness within the collective, the Elders began to release the teachings to whomever sought them.
